Small business website management becoming trendier
Now that most business owners, including the baby boomer and older generations, are aware of Facebook and social media, it seems that small business website management is becoming more and more in demand. This is because Google Places has become a much more important part of search results since the algorithm changes in 2011 where local companies are garnering much more attention on Google results. So while a Facebook page might be handy, its no longer being checked much.
Instead, direct search results on smart phones and iPads and laptops are becoming once again the most important way to get your business noticed. So, instead of trusting your reputation to outsourced freelancers who are expensive, monthly website management services are springing up such as Little Bizzy from Las Vegas, Nevada, that offer affordable web hosting and site management to small businesses.

There are many places online to now check site worth and domain value, which helps webmasters to determine their SEO progress and the value of their online properties. The value of a domain is generally considered to be measurable in a few key ways, which include the number of backlinks pointing to a website and a few other factors like Google Pagerank, how many pages are indexed, and the traffic it receives such as measured by Alexa, a company owned by Amazon.

Facebook Privacy- An Essential Guide
I was not joking when I said that privacy issues in Facebook can go to an extent of finishing your life. It has happened and the possibility of it happening is increasing day by day. Many people don’t know that Facebook is a danger zone and you should keep in and every step very carefully. It can tell your secrets, confidential information and embarrassing things to the entire world.
I have discussed some of the dangers involved in Facebook and other social networking sites in this article: How Safe Are Facebook, twitter And Myspace? – The Dangers of Social Networking Sites. I have mentioned about how malware authors target Facebook and how an actual murder has happened because of a careless exposure of personal information by a Facebook user.
Since many people are looking for the best ways to protect their Facebook safety, I wanted to right an article as a complete guide for Facebook privacy and here it is.
Check Your Privacy Settings
Let us first have a quick look at the recommended privacy settings:
By looking at the settings in the image, do you think that these recommended settings totally protect your privacy?
Even if you have these recommended settings, everyone can still view your photos, your status and posts! Anyone can find your Facebook profile by searching in Google and can find what is up with you by reading your status.
And if you see a friend request from a cute unknown girl, you will be tempted to confirm the friend request without realizing that it is not a real profile. You know what happens when you add some one as friend: They can see your complete contact information, all of your photos and everything that you don’t really want to expose to a complete stranger.
So first of all, you need to customize your general privacy settings depending on how you want them to be.. Too much privacy protection will make Facebook useless and too less privacy protection will make Facebook the most dangerous place of all.
If you are using default privacy settings of Facebook and haven’t looked at the details yet, then the first thing to do is to configure your privacy settings according to your needs:
To do that click ‘Account’- ‘Privacy settings’- ‘Customize settings’
Use Facebook Lists
So now you have configured what everyone should see and what your friends should be able to see. But a friend in your Facebook can be anyone: A school friend who found you in Facebook but haven’t met you personally for more than a decade, a colleague who meets you everyday, someone who simply wanted to be a friend and sent you a friend request, someone who you found online in a discussion forum and some others..
But you may not want to share all of your information with all of your friends.. If you are not using Facebook lists, then you are doing something that you don’t want to: Sharing everything and all of your friends..
One of the best things to do in Facebook to protect your Facebook privacy is to categorize your friends, put them in separate lists and allocate different privacy settings for each list.
To create lists click on ‘Accounts’ – ‘Edit friends’
Under ‘Lists’ click ‘Friends’ and click ‘Create New List’
Applications And Websites Can Intrude Your Privacy
Many people don’t know that the applications that they add have some access to their profiles depending on the purpose of the application.
Before you add an application, you need to first go to the application’s home page and check the number of people using it and their Feedback. You should also check if there is another application which can serve the same purpose but better than this one.
There are some malicious applications which are created only with the intention of stealing you data. You need to make sure that the application you are adding is not malicious.
You also need to check the permissions for that application and give only the necessary permissions.
A lot of applications post things that you do on websites to your Facebook wall. Sometimes they can be embarrassing, spammy or even pose a serious privacy issues.
Turn Off The Search Engine Visibility If Not Needed
Enter your first name and last name in Google search. If it is unique, then you will notice that your Facebook page comes most probably as the first result in Google.
Facebook has the Google page rank of 10 and it is well respected by Google. When you enter a person’s name in Google search, it always tried to find a Facebook profile associated with that name and puts it at the top.
This can be good for some people and bad for some people. If you don’t like to be found in Google then you should disable the public search.
To do that, go to Account – Privacy Settings
Under ‘Application and Websites’ click ‘Edit your settings’ ..
Find ‘Public Search’ in the list and click ‘Edit Settings’.
Uncheck the box ‘Enable Public Search’
This is one of the very important privacy settings that most people don’t know.
Check What Is Posted To Your Wall
This is very important. If you have a Facebook account, you should log in often and check what is in your wall. Otherwise you should delete your Facebook account.
One of your friends may post something on your wall related to an incident that you want to keep private. The wall post may reveal information about you that you don’t want to be known to others. If you forget to login to your Facebook and don’t know what is in your wall, then your privacy is in question.
There are many other things that you need to watch out for to protect your privacy and it is impossible to discuss everything in just one article. Your privacy can be compromised by the photos tagged with you, by the ‘relationship status’ being shown to everyone, by not following privacy guidelines in displaying your contact information, by showing what events you are attending to everyone etc.
You need to use your common sense to decide which one can harm your privacy and act accordingly.
